Match Report

The opening half of the match was an exciting one, with Liverpool taking a little while to warm up and Ipswich looking determined on the counter.

Liverpool came out firing and forced the first goal fifteen minutes into the second half. Greaves and Hutchinson forced Alisson into comparatively straightforward saves with little response in the first quarter.

Salah, making his 350th appearance for the team outside of competition, deftly sidestepped Davis to avoid the offside trap and squared up for Jota to form it around Walton.

In a mere five minutes, Salah transformed from an assister to a goal scorer, deftly placing the ball inside the left post as Ipswich was unable to contain the increasing pressure.

With nine goals in season openers, Salah became the Premier League's top opening day scorer with this goal. With an xG of 0.47, Ipswich's performance in the first half was little improved. Liverpool got up to 2.72, but Ipswich had a strong rearguard with goalkeeper Walton performing superbly.
